Lauren Nicholson, MA, ATR, Art therapist

Hello I’m Lauren!

I’m an art therapist and artist currently working in the greater Philadelphia area. I grew up in Chester County, PA. I obtained my MA in Art Therapy at Marywood University located in Scranton, PA. I obtained my BA in Art, specialized in Art Therapy, minors in 2D Art and Psychology, from Seton Hill University in Greensburg, PA. 

I’m currently working as an art therapist part time. While I am an art therapist, I also consider myself to be an artist. Historically, I’ve done a lot of oil painting and photography. As my skills grew as an art therapist I realized more of my art making focused around the act of creating with any kind of material rather than focusing on one medium. There isn’t one material that I prefer over another at this point and I’d like to keep it that way. If anything, I create mostly within the lines of my core values which mostly relate to keeping environmentally friendly ideals in mind and not putting pressure on myself to create a masterpiece. I believe that art making should be a fun and creative process, a process that has no limits and explores the self expression of the artist.
